Introduction to Contemporary Art

This scripted, spectacular installation opens the contemporary art trail. It is a timeline that places the artists of the collection back into their periods and movements, staging each era through the events, movements and political and cultural figures of the 1960s to the 1990s. A 75-inch screen mounted vertically forms a “temporal” doorway on whose threshold the visitor stands.

Using a slider on a small 10-inch touchscreen, they move time forwards and backwards to discover the artists of the collection alongside the major social, political, artistic and cultural events of their day. The timeline itself takes the form of a roller coaster.
