ORACLE (is today another day?) — Matthieu Saladin, 2022. Every day, at the official hour of sunrise, an oracle reveals itself gradually on the eastern rampart of the Château d’Angers. The apparition repeats fourteen times in all, until sunset — the number of scenes now missing from the Apocalypse Tapestry held within the walls of the monument.

These enigmatic sentences are determined by daily air-pollution readings. They offer themselves to interpretation as a reading of the quality of a new day, and of the world that comes with it. Technical team: Colin Bouvry and Raphaël Isdant (multimedia engineering), Agence KCS (structural design), Ianis Lallemand (computational design), Achim Reichert (graphic design).

Shown at the Château d’Angers from 27 June to 2 October 2022, produced by the “Mondes Nouveaux” programme run by the French Ministry of Culture as part of France Relance, in collaboration with the Centre des monuments nationaux.
